About the role
We are looking for a hands-on Senior Data Engineer with Microsoft Fabric experience to help build and evolve a modern data platform in the Microsoft ecosystem. In this role, you will work on data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, data modelling and analytics enablement, with Microsoft Fabric as the core platform for delivery.
The ideal candidate has strong data engineering fundamentals and practical experience delivering solutions with Microsoft Fabric. We are looking for someone who can design reliable data flows, work with stakeholders, improve data quality and support analytics use cases, rather than someone who has worked with one exact platform configuration.
This opportunity is available for contractors and full-time employees within the EU.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain data ingestion, transformation and orchestration processes.
- Help establish the foundations of a modern, scalable data platform using Microsoft Fabric.
- Work with business and technical stakeholders to understand source data, reporting needs and analytics use cases.
- Develop reliable data pipelines for structured and semi-structured business data.
- Design curated data layers that support reporting, analytics and downstream consumption.
- Implement data transformation, cleansing, validation and quality checks.
- Support data modelling and preparation for BI and analytics tools.
- Troubleshoot data quality, pipeline, integration and performance issues.
- Contribute to platform documentation, knowledge transfer and engineering best practices.
- Support iterative delivery of analytics use cases within Agile delivery teams.
Required skills and experience
- 5+ years of hands-on data engineering experience.
- Practical experience building or supporting data engineering solutions with Microsoft Fabric.
- Experience building ETL/ELT processes, data ingestion pipelines and transformation workflows.
- Experience working with cloud-based data platforms in the Microsoft ecosystem.
- Good understanding of data modelling, data quality and analytics consumption patterns.
- Experience integrating data from multiple sources into a shared data platform or reporting environment.
- Ability to troubleshoot data quality, pipeline and integration issues.
- Understanding of BI and reporting requirements, including how data is prepared for analytical use.
- Experience working within Agile or iterative delivery teams.
- Ability to produce clear technical documentation and provide knowledge transfer.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with Fabric Data Factory or comparable data pipeline tools.
- Experience with Lakehouse, Warehouse, OneLake or Delta Table concepts.
- Familiarity with Medallion Architecture or similar layered data modelling approaches.
- Experience preparing data for Power BI or semantic models.
- Microsoft data platform or Azure certifications.
