About the role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Azure Developer / Azure Technical Consultant to support the ongoing development, evolution and technical improvement of an enterprise application hosted in Microsoft Azure. In this role, you will work on complex cloud-based application challenges, with a particular focus on Azure architecture, application security, authentication, integrations and deployment. You will collaborate with technical stakeholders to analyse existing solutions, identify improvement opportunities and provide hands-on engineering support where required.
The ideal candidate combines strong software development skills with a solid understanding of the Microsoft Azure ecosystem and cloud-native security principles.
Key responsibilities
- Review and analyse existing application architecture, design and deployment approaches.
- Support the ongoing development and technical evolution of Azure-hosted applications.
- Assess existing authentication, authorisation and integration mechanisms.
- Investigate and implement opportunities to replace API key and key-based authentication with Azure Managed Identity and other Azure-native authentication mechanisms.
- Analyse technical constraints, dependencies and risks associated with architectural and security changes.
- Participate in technical workshops and discovery sessions with stakeholders and subject matter experts.
- Review application code, deployment artefacts and configuration.
- Provide technical guidance on Azure networking, private connectivity and restricted network access.
- Support and advise on Azure API Management (APIM) integrations and configuration.
- Troubleshoot application, connectivity, authentication, integration and deployment issues.
- Support code modifications, configuration changes and deployment activities.
- Review and validate technical solutions against Microsoft and Azure best practices.
- Investigate defects, unexpected application behaviour and technical issues.
- Support testing, validation and technical verification activities.
- Provide technical recommendations and findings to support decision-making.
- Participate in implementation planning, technical estimation and prioritisation.
- Support knowledge transfer and technical handover activities.
- Provide ongoing technical advisory support for Azure-based solutions.
Required skills and experience
- At least 5 years of experience with C# and .NET / .NET Core.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure.
- Strong understanding of cloud application architecture and cloud-native development principles.
- Experience with Azure Managed Identity and Azure authentication mechanisms.
- Good understanding of authentication and authorisation concepts.
- Experience with Azure service integrations and secure communication between Azure resources.
- Experience with Azure API Management (APIM).
- Knowledge of Azure networking concepts, including Private Endpoints, private connectivity, restricted public network access and secure application communication.
- Experience troubleshooting complex application and cloud infrastructure issues.
- Experience reviewing application architecture and identifying technical risks and dependencies.
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and application deployment processes.
- Ability to analyse existing codebases and deployment configurations.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
